Merry Music Makers (3-5 yrs)

Merry Music Makers class for children at The Master's Touch School of Music and Performing Arts

It begins with a smile at the sound of a parent’s voice, and then the sheer amazement and pleasure in the discovery of their own voice! To a child music is elemental and irresistible!

We selected the highly acclaimed Musikgarten curriculum for its excellent creativity and musical design for young children 6 mo-5 yrs. Studies prove that music’s melodic and rhythmic patterns awaken and stimulate neutral creative thinking.
Language, movement, and rhythm skills are used to develop mental concentration, coordination, self esteem, and creativity while building a foundation for any future musical pursuit.

Other skills enhanced through music development are music readiness and awareness, listening, movement, soft-loud, slow-fast, high-low pitches scales, vocalization, singing, keeping beat and pitch matching.

The students will use and enjoy rhythm instruments such as wood blocks, African drums, claves, tambourines, maracas, glockenspiels, tone bell and our finely tuned Orff instruments! Through a combination of age appropriate songs, playing instruments, listening and learning, the students are exposed to an enriching experience.

Our Merry Music Makers grand finale is a special children’s opera in May that creatively showcases our 3 through 5 year old student’s talents. We are proud to be laying a foundation of a lifetime love of music and developing skills that will be valuable beyond the music class!

Notes from Ms. Laura:

Dear Merry Music Makers Parents,

Exciting rhythms, foreign lyrics, colorful tonalities, and creative dance steps are promised as we embark on a musical journey around the world.

  • Beginning with the British Isles, we will sing and play a national theme on the Orff instruments entitled, Did You Ever See A Lassie?  We will move in time with hand drums to the Gaelic Dance. The Scottish medley, My Bonnie Lies Over The Ocean and Skye Boat Song, will encourage children to ring triangles and finger cymbals.
  • In November, we will cross the ocean to our own country and learn about American Indian culture and its impact on Thanksgiving, making drums and singing Ho,Ho,Watanay while riding in our canoe. Back across the Atlantic Ocean to Africa, we will dance to Ping Pong Samba and make necklaces for Kwanza. Beloved African-American spirituals will also enter our repertoire— Chatter With The Angels, Hush, This Little Light of Mine, and I Got A Robe.

Our final unit examines the music of Germany as we study the influence of Mozart, Bach, and Haydn. We will end our semester in late May with The Three Piggy Opera as our grand finale.

Join us as we explore countries and cultures around the globe. This gigantic world will grow a little smaller and more familiar as we enjoy our musical journey.

    Sing and Be Happy,
                     Laura Melson
